The stats behind the 2024 Formula 2 season so far

The 2024 season has been one to remember as the introduction of a new car meant the entire grid had to start from zero and build from the ground up.
As a result, the teams and their drivers have treated us to an incredibly competitive campaign and the statistics show that, with 2024 proving to be a record-breaking year.
So, before we hit the ground running again in Monza, we thought it would be a great time to look at some of the big statistics from the first 10 rounds of the season.

Championship leader Isack Hadjar leads the way in this column with four victories.
Each of the Frenchman’s wins have come in the Feature Race, meaning he is just one shy of Charles Leclerc’s record of winning five of the longer events in a season, which he did back in 2017.
Hadjar is also one of 14 drivers to have won at least one race this year, surpassing the previous best of 13 set in 2023 and representing a new Formula 2 record.
However, of those 14 winners only four have won more than once, with Zane Maloney, Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Zak O’Sullivan all having been victorious twice in addition to Hadjar’s four, which is the lowest total of repeat winners since 2017.
Impressively though, 10 out of the 11 teams have won a race this year, with Hitech Pulse-Eight the only outfit yet to do so, although they have gone close a few times.
Where Hitech have shone is in Qualifying as they and Invicta Racing are tied for the most Pole Positions this season with three apiece.
Each of Hitech’s poles have come through Paul Aron, who has the most of any driver and he is followed by Invicta’s Gabriel Bortoleto and MP Motorsport’s Dennis Hauger, who both have two.
Invicta though are the only team to have had both of their drivers start from pole with Kush Maini having done so once, in Jeddah, while Bortoleto went from the front in Sakhir and Imola.

Invicta have also shone in their consistency in the races, especially through Bortoleto who has the best average finishing position of any driver through the first 10 rounds.
The Brazilian’s average end position is 5.9, with Hadjar’s being next best on 6.4 and then Hauger on 6.6.
Aron is third in the Championship and was at one stage at the top of this metric, but a dip in form has seen his average drop to 6.8, while Jak Crawford and Maloney are tied on 7.1.
Hauger’s MP teammate Franco Colapinto is sixth in the Drivers’ Standings but has the seventh best average finishing position of 7.7 ahead of ART Grand Prix driver Victor Martins on 7.8.
Antonelli is ninth for PREMA Racing on 8.3 as Maini rounds out the top 10 on 9.1.
Antonelli though has achieved the most fastest lap points with four, ahead of Colapinto who has three.
Following them is a quartet of drivers who have done so twice in Enzo Fittipaldi, Ritomo Miyata, Hauger and Aron.
Those seven drivers are amongst a group of 11 to set the fastest lap this year, although this is currently the lowest total in a season since 2019.

ART pair O’Sullivan and Martins have taken the fastest lap once, meaning the French outfit and MP are the only teams to have both drivers achieve this so far this year.
Aron and Hadjar are tied at the top of this category, as both have seven podium finishes in 2024.
The former was quickest to this mark having scored one podium at each of the opening seven rounds, while Hadjar took his seventh after his Spa-Francorchamps Feature Race victory.
Maloney is next up with six podiums so far this year, while Maini and Hauger have taken home five trophies apiece this season.
Another eye-catching stat is that 19 of the 22 drivers have finished on the podium this year, another new Formula 2 record.
In addition to that, for the first time in F2 history, every team has achieved at least one podium.

So far 12 drivers have started from the front row this year, which ties the 2022 campaign for the most in one season.
Bortoleto and Aron lead the way for the most starts on the front row with three, while Crawford, Hauger, Hadjar and Martins have all qualified in the top two twice.
This also means that every team except for Rodin Motorsport has qualified on the front row so far this year.
Rodin though have had particularly good reliability with Miyata having completed the most laps this season with 560.
The Japanese driver has not completed the full race distance just once this year, a stoppage in the Spielberg Feature Race representing his only DNF this season. Maini is just behind him in second having completed 558 laps of his own.

Antonelli though has led the most laps of anyone this year, with 59, two more than Verschoor, while Aron is third on 54.
Once again, 19 drivers on the grid have led at least one lap in 2024, representing another Formula 2 record.
